Recognition of Prior Learning 🧑‍🎓

Eligible applicants can get certified without going to school 👀 Learn how!

If you're thinking about studying or training, think first about what skills you already have. You may be able to reduce the time it takes to get your qualification.

If a visa you are applying for requires you to have a particular qualification (we’re looking at you; skill-sponsored visas!), but you’ve already got more work experience than you can shake a stick at, you can use eligible work experience to get credit for your studies.

You can get credit for part of your course, and in some cases even all of your course!

Which saves you from returning to the classroom to go over something you’re already skilled in!

It’s called the RPL - The Recognition of Prior Learning – is about the skills and knowledge you’ve gained through work and life experiences.

RPL means that you as the candidate would gain credit towards a vocational qualification - sometimes a full qualification - without undertaking a complete training program 😌

Being awarded a qualification through RPL means that you don’t have to go back to school only to study what you already know through your previous work experience.

Instead, you provide evidence that you already have the knowledge and skills that studying the qualification would give you.

Workers with existing skills but no formal certification of those skills are often required to undertake unnecessary training to gain a qualification.

Unnecessary training is inefficient for both industries and workers, delaying training completion, wasting training funds, and affecting the ability of workers to fill skilled positions in a timely way.

So, the solution, was the RPL.

RPL is faster, cheaper, and more efficient than putting people through training in areas they already know well.

For example: working in an office could help you get a certificate in business administration without studying.

Evidence for an RPL assessment can be attained through both paid and voluntary work, in Australia and overseas.

Qualifications gained through RPL range from Certificates and Diplomas up to Advanced Diplomas and Graduate Diplomas.

Will employers or immigration look down on a qualification gained via RPL?

NO! 😊

Under the National Skills Framework it doesn’t matter how the qualification was obtained. It is still a nationally recognised qualification.

Why should I get a qualification through RPL?

Let’s say for example that you’re a tradie and you’re looking to apply for the 482 Visa.

You either need 3 years of work experience or 2 years + qualification to be eligible most trade occupations on a 482.

You may reduce the necessary time from 3 to 2 years if you get a qualification through RPL. 🎉

Qualification may also be required for licensing purposes, like a builder license.
